    I have a question. At work, I use Yahoo messenger, and I regularly have between 20 and 30 IM windows open at any one time. Basically brokers send me messages and every so often I glance at the screen to see if there's anything that interests me. The problem is, that i have so many windows open they start overlapping one another and I can't just glance at the screen to see who's IM'd me, I have to activate each window one-by-one to see if there's anything I'm interested in.

    Do any of these clients have the feature of a single window, where all your messages come in. Then I could keep this window on top always, and could just look at that window to see who's IM'd me and what they've said!

    You can use 2 IM clients for solving your problem:

    DIGSBY's newest version works fast and DON'T consume from the PC's CPU lot. You can even send emails from the application window to that particular contact (you can have several personal email accounts and choose from which of your email accounts do you want to send that email; the receiver will not notice that you use digsby)
    PIDGIN is also very good and it consumes less CPU than DIGSBY. You can install both at the same time to choose the right one.

    (TRILLIAN is not free but somehow, it's not that good as they said earlier)

    Trillian has a feature which allows you to have your individual windows in one window with tabbed index across the top with the name of the sender. It's convenient when you have multiple chats going on! They have trillian basic available for free, and trillian Pro for a fee.

    Pidgin does allow you to have the multi-tabbed view and it's free whereas a few months ago I tried to use trillian for Yahoo and I think (my memory could be fuzzy) that it made you pay for the Pro version to get the plugin to work.

    check out digsby. it's great it keeps everything in one window all in tabs as for msg notification the tab blinks, if i remember correctly (haven't used it in a while), and you can scroll up and down between tabs if you're always checking.
